Brewing all we can.

We are incredibly proud of our team and how we’ve rebounded since the pandemic: there are now 30 of us, we are brewing, packaging and distributing flat out, and have welcomed many new customers on board these past few months. We’ve been rationing stock of our flagship Keller Pils and new Helles since hospitality reopened: nothing makes us happier than having the brewery buzzing again after the roller-coaster of the past 16months - we feel really fortunate to be in this position.

We have a major expansion on the horizon in September where we will add a further 60,000L of fermentation capacity, but know that in the process of meeting current demand we are really stretched: we need time to take a breath, build our crew further to support everything from production through to the warehouse, making the workload sustainable for everyone involved, and importantly we need scope to give our team downtime after an incredibly stressful period to re-establish a work-life balance. We are busy recruiting for five new team members and know our structure has to be strong in a period of growth in uncharted waters.

Discussing our options, we made a team decision to have some of our keg Helles brewed by Brouwerij De Brabandere in Belgium until we can get our own expansion complete in September. We are still brewing, kegging and canning Helles weekly in Bristol, and this production is supplementing that supply. Our co-founder Alex has a long history with the team at Brouwerij De Brabandere, a regional brewer in West Flanders, and there is no independent brewer better positioned to produce our Helles on our behalf: we are using the same ingredients, same high-tech Krones brewhouse (just a bit bigger than ours!) and we’ve also sourced natural “sour wort” to replicate our brewhouse lactic acid plant in Bristol which is a key component in how we produce our beers. Importantly, both of our breweries share common philosophies in how we brew.

We can’t wait to have our expansion complete in September, but until then we toast our Belgian friends for helping us to continue supplying our beautiful draught Helles through this summer.

We’d like to thank everyone for their support over the past five years, and in particular over the last 16 months.

Love,

Annie, Alex and team Lost and Grounded x
