Joining the fight against food waste and hunger!
In January we teamed up with our partner, the 100 Club, to support The Felix Project, a London-based charity that aims to tackle the issues of food waste and food poverty. The Felix Project was set up in 2016 and is a free service that collects surplus food from suppliers in the food industry and delivers it to charities as well as school programmes across London.
The Stats
The Food Foundation reports that in April 2022, 7.3 million adults were struggling to afford to eat whilst, 2.6 million children are living in food poverty. These figures have risen during the pandemic and look to continue to rise due to the current cost of living crisis. A recent research study by WRAP found that food waste in the UK is about 9.5million tonnes per year which is equivalent to 15 billion meals, enough to feed the whole UK population 3 meals a day for 11 weeks. WRAP also reports that 700,000 tonnes of surplus food is being redistributed by charities, much like The Felix Project, or repurposed for animal feed. In 2021 The Felix Project were able to provide food for 30 million meals with their amazing redistribution efforts.
Partnering with the 100 Club
This year saw the return of the 100 Club’s Resolution Festival where they hosted a special fund raising event featuring Steve Ignorant’s ‘Slice of Life’ set, with all proceeds going to The Felix Project. It’s a cause that 100 Club’s Manager, Ruby, is very passionate about as she used to volunteer for the charity alongside her dad for a time. “It was hugely important for us to be involved in this collaboration as it felt like an extension of the club’s work”, says Ruby. “The 100 Club is the oldest live music venue in the world and it has always been accessible to everyone by dropping cultural barriers with music and live entertainment”.
When asked about the club’s fundraising gig Ruby explains, “It was a great night. We had a lovely group of people who came to see the show, many come up to us to apologise for not being able to donate more, but were offering up their spare time to help which is incredible.”
At Lost and Grounded Brewers we are proud to support The Felix Project and from the end of January we are running limited edition cans of Keller Pils, Helles and Wanna Go To The Sun, with 2p from sales being donated to The Felix Project to help fund a new food delivery van. Our Co-Founder and Creative Lead Annie comments, “We have such admiration for the fantastic work that The Felix Project does and are thrilled to be partnering with The 100 Club to help raise money for the ‘Good Food for Good Causes’ campaign.”
Our limited edition cans are hitting the shelves now, so keep your eye out for them!
