Cold Brewing with Caravan!
We recently invited the team from Caravan Coffee Roasters to the brewery to lend a hand with the brewing of our special collaboration Iced Coffee Pale Ale.
Caravan have been long-time supporters of Lost and Grounded Brewers, with Helles and Wanna Go to the Sun pouring at all their sites, and we wanted to find a fun and collaborative way to work with them on our next limited release beer. Not ones to follow a trend, we wanted to come up with a brew that wasn’t your usual coffee porter, and instead complimented Caravan’s lighter roast. A crisp Pale Ale was chosen as the beer style, with an iced coffee infusion that will be light and refreshing - perfect for the fast-approaching summer months!
“I envisaged us brewing up something super exciting to enjoy for the summer season, and our 'Iced Coffee Pale Ale' was created! It’s been amazing to have our brewers working with Caravan’s coffee experts to create something truly unique,” says Annie Clements (our Co-Founder & Creative Lead). “The whole process from beginning through to completion has been a wholly collaborative and joyful experience.”
For our Iced Coffee Pale Ale we chose a classic blend of Magnum, Mosaic and El Dorado hops for their bright, tropical notes, with a big hit of Caravan’s single origin, natural processed Sholi Top Lot – chosen for its vanilla ice cream profile – added during maturation. We went through a lengthy process to establish not only the right style of coffee to use, but also the best method to incorporate it into the beer; in the end we went with a ‘hot bloom’ cold brew, designed to produce a highly concentrated coffee. By adding the coffee right at the end of the brewing process we’ll preserve as much of the intensity and aromas as possible.

Iced Coffee Pale Ale will be available in 440ml cans and stocked in over 200 Waitrose stores across the UK from today!
